Senior soccer player, Lauren Fleischer starts off the season with 20 goals and 16 assists after 13 games. Fleischer’s chances of getting postseason honors increase every time she steps on the field.

“I’ve been playing soccer since I was four, so for 14 years. I started as a outside wing but then in high school, my coach moved me to center mid to try to control the middle and distribute the ball to the forwards,” Fleischer said.

This season, there are only two seniors on varsity, last year graduating four starting seniors has caused Fleischer to step into the role of the team leader.

“Most of our team is freshmen and sophomores, which means they haven’t necessarily been in Regional Championship games or other big games, so I have to help out the younger team members when it comes to understanding situations,” Fleischer said.

As her senior year comes to an end, Fleischer compares this season in the new league to her past three seasons in the centennial league.

“I never see any friends from club anymore due to the new league, [the new league] is less competitive because we are not competing against the people we grew up competing against our whole lives,” Fleischer said.

Fleischer is committed to Southwestern University, to continue her career in soccer at the collegiate level.
